Q & A with Shawn Crenshaw author of – Embrace the Real You

Kevin Peter of Moterwriter.com caught up with author Shawn Crenshaw and got him to talk a little about his latest book Embrace the Real You. This is what transpired in the tête-à-tête with the author.

Kevin Peter: What’s a typical work day like for you?

Shawn Crenshaw: Unpredictable. I never know what to expect one day to the next. It creates excitement and tension at the same time.

KP: Tell us a little about your background?

SC: I am originally from Meridian, MS. I attended and graduated from the University of Alabama. My degree from college is in Information Systems. But, I have always been active speaking and writing. I have a ministry named Crossthreads Ministries. Additionally, I love playing sports, especially basketball.

KP: How would you describe your writing process?

SC: Divinely inspired. I believe my faith in Christ and the gifting God has given me manifest themselves when I write. I feel the most creative by just sitting down in front of laptop, praying and then going after it. Most of the time, I may intend to write something and I change midstream in another direction.

KP: Any vices or habits that you can’t seem to do without while writing?

SC: None.

KP: Just as your books will inspire others, who are the writers that have inspired you?

SC: Tony Evans, Tony Dungy, Lester Sumrall

KP: What do you think is the best way to influence others, through your actions and your deeds, or through your words?

SC: Both. I believe if your actions do not validate your words, then your words are hollow, without impact.  I desire for my life to be influential and to make positive change in the world.

KP: What was your inspiration behind ‘Embrace the Real You’?

SC: It came to me through a time of prayer. I believe everyone should know who they were created to be and live the life that God wants them to live. I failed to embrace who I was for a long time and this book really helped me in the journey.

KP: According to you what’s the first step someone should take to make a positive change in their life?

SC: Accept Christ as Lord. That is what did it for me and He changed my life. I am not ashamed to admit it.

KP: How can one begin to ‘listen’ to God?

SC: Recognize that He wants to talk to them. Then, take time to read and study the Bible. And when reading, receive it as God speaking directly to them, which He will do.

KP: List two simple ways in which someone can make their everyday life effective and fulfilling?

SC: Serve others in little ways, such as saying thank you or smiling. The other way is to love everyone, no matter what they do.

KP: Who helped or influenced you in shaping your identity?

SC: My mom, without a doubt.

KP: What are you expecting readers to take away from this book?

SC: That they would be inspired to be everything that God desires for them to be. I expect this book to open readers’ eyes to what is inside of them and to live from that knowledge.

KP: Any advice for youngsters and other people still trying to figure out their life?

SC: Seek wisdom from God and His Word. He will lead you through the dark places and into the light of His revelation. That revelation will show you purpose and destiny. Another thing is to stay away from people that do not have direction or a desire to succeed. Those people are leeches and will suck the destiny and purpose out you.

KP: What are your future plans? What more can the world expect from Shawn Crenshaw?

SC: More books to come. A few are in the works. Good stuff.

KP: Reading anything at the moment?

SC: Five Love Languages

KP: What is your favourite and least favourite part of the writing/publishing process?

SC: Favourite part is the writing. Least favourite is the marketing. I am not a salesman by nature, so to have to publicize my book has been a challenge.

KP: And lastly, thank you for parting with your valuable time Shawn Crenshaw and all the very best for your book.

SC: Thank you Kevin. God Bless.
